What is the Derek Freese High School Film Festival?
The Festival screens the work of high school students from 9th to 12th grade.
Is the Festival open for the public to attend?
Yes, it is! We welcome anybody who is interested in viewing the work of young filmmakers.
When is the next Festival?
February 26th, 2012.
Where is the Festival located?
It is located at Temple University Annenberg Hall Room 3. The address is 2020 North 13th Street; Philadelphia, PA 19122. View Larger Map
When can I submit my films?
As of , we are closed to further submissions for the 2010 Festival. Please apply next year for the 202 festival!
How long can my film be?
10 minutes or shorter.
Can I use copyrighted music in my work?
It is always best to use music that you own the rights to. However, if you only use a small sample of that music, it will be fine. And, of course, you can conduct/create your own music as well.

What if I have more than one entry?
You can submit multiple entries to the festival as long as each video is accompanied with its own individual online entry form.
What if I co-directed my film or video with my friends?
We welcome collaborative works. However, we need you to put each director’s full name on the same entry form. The award would be equally divided between the number of the directors.
Can I send a DVD in the mail instead?
Yes, you certainly may. Make sure that you send us a high-resolution .mov file with the submission. More details please click here.
How do I compress my files to less than 800mb?
The easiest way to compress your film to smaller size to be able to upload to our Dropbox is following the steps below:
1. Open your original file in QuickTime Player.
2. Click on “File” on tool bar and select “Export”
3. In the window, select where you want to save the file and select the “Format” as ” iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV”
4. Wait for the exporting process.
5. Then you are done! upload the new exported file to our Dropbox.
